About the activity

In-school presentations allow pupils to explore how their journeys have changed since their transition to independent travel, for example from primary school to secondary school.

During the presentation the group enters into a non-confrontational dialogue, promoting honest responses and an open forum – watch a presentation in action in this video. Pupils can use this time to explore and resolve issues they may have experienced on the transport network.

Sessions include fast-paced, educational videos, images to support learning points, role play and question and answer. All videos are age-appropriate and fully subtitled.

The presentations last between 20 minutes and an hour to fit in with your timetable. We recommend longer time slots to allow for a more interactive and comprehensive session. Presentations are given to whole year groups together where possible.

Topics covered might include:

  • Active travel choices
  • Bus stop safety
  • Awareness of personal safety
  • Using the Zip Oyster photocard correctly (including the Behaviour Code)
  • Respect for other travellers and staff members
  • Making responsible decisions
  • Thinking about the impact of their choices
  • How to report issues

If you are a secondary school teacher and you feel your pupils would benefit from a post-transition presentation, please call 020 7565 7303 or email [email protected]

If you would like to address specific issues faced at your school, the Safety and Citizenship team will do their best to tackle these with your pupils.

How to evidence your activity

  • Record the feedback from your pupils. Note how they engaged on the day, the key messages they took away with them and how this has helped you meet your targets
  • Sign in to STARS to add your story. Explain the activity, include your pupils’ feedback and photographs of them participating in the session
