About the activity
Consult with and include your pupils at every step in your TfL Travel for Life journey to create more meaningful, fun and engaging travel activities. Work alongside pupils to find out which travel issues they feel are most important and ask for their ideas on ways in which they think their school could travel more actively.
Here are some ideas for getting pupils more involved:
- Ensure pupils are a part of your school travel working group and encourage them to plan and organise their own TfL Travel for Life activities
- Ask your TfL Explorers and Pioneers Ambassadors to work with younger pupils to teach them about active and sustainable travel and how this benefits air quality
- Encourage pupils to carry out their own environmental survey and present their findings and solutions on how to increase active and sustainable travel
- Ask pupils to speak to their families about the health and environmental benefits of active travel
- Support pupils in creating active-travel themed leaflets or posters to send home or display at school or on your website
- Carry out a survey or launch a competition to gather your pupils’ ideas on how the school could help more people to travel more actively
How to evidence your activity
Sign in to TfL Travel for Life to add your story to "my activities". Explain the activity, add photos of pupils taking the lead, include any materials produced by pupils and include their feedback.
Activity steps
Step 1
Back to basics. Work with your school travel working group (which should include pupils!) and borough officer to discuss ways of making sure pupils are fully involved in the TfL Travel for Life process
Step 2
Public power. Work with pupils and your TfL Explorers and Pioneers Ambassadors to spread the TfL Travel for Life message - encourage them to come up with their own ideas for activities and promotions to get the school focusing on active travel
Step 3
Celebrate! Encourage your pupils to shout about their achievements to the wider school community in assemblies, newsletters and on your travel noticeboard or website
Step 4
Check for success. Ask pupils to feedback on their involvement. Find out what they have enjoyed and what they think could be improved
Step 5
Tell your story. Upload evidence to "my activities".
