Organise a talk to teach your pupils about important road safety messages in a fun and engaging way.
Topics might include:
- Behaviour on and around roads
- Distractions
- Concentration of drivers and pedestrians
- Wearing a seat belt
- Crossing between parked cars
- Speed and stopping distances
Speak to your borough officer to discuss road safety talk options for your school. You can invite your Road Safety Officer or community police team to give a talk, or book a theatre company. A great way to deliver this is to get a pupil group to deliver the assembly. There are lots of template for assemblies in the links to the left of this page
How to evidence your activity
- Record the pupil feedback during and after the session
- Sign in to TfL Travel for Life to add your story. Explain your activity and include your pupils’ feedback and photographs from the talk(s)
This activity supports the Vision Zero target to eliminate death and serious injuries on London’s streets.
Activity steps
Step 1
Road safety first. Ask pupils about road safety and the Green Cross Code to find out how much they know
Step 2
Plan. Speak with your head teacher and borough officer about the road safety talk options available for your school and set a date
Step 3
On the day. Note down how your pupils respond to the talk and take photos of the talk in action
Step 4
Spread the word. Pass on important road safety messages to parents via your school’s website or newsletter so they can support what your pupils have learnt
Step 5
Check for success. Talk to pupils about what they learnt in the session and whether they found it useful
Step 6
Tell your story. Upload your evidence to "my activities"
