How it helps

  • Promotes positive travel behaviours
  • Encourages community involvement

About the activity

Your local police Safer Transport Team can support school travel initiatives that relate to fear of crime, antisocial behaviour and Year 6’s transition to secondary school.

Your local police service has a range of other teams dedicated to various aspects of community safety and will often have officers dedicated to liaising with schools. You can work in partnership with your local police team in a number of ways including offering staff for events, activities and delivering assemblies.

Contact your borough officer or nearest STT for more information.

How to evidence your activity

  • Involve your borough officer. Share your ideas, agree your targets and discuss any challenges you face
  • Record the feedback from your pupils and staff
  • Upload your evidence to explain your activity, include copies of any communications with your STT, photos of events and activities and feedback from pupils

Activity steps

Step 1

Get planning. With your senior leadership and borough officer decide how you'd like to work in partnership with the local police to support your school’s safety priorities

Step 2

Partner up. Contact your local Met Police STT to discuss your ideas and how you can work together

Step 3

Spread the word. Promote your partnership and any events though assemblies, posters, newsletters and local press to spread the safety message further

Step 4

Tell your story. Upload your evidence to "my activities".
