St Helen’s College has been involved in the accreditation programme for an impressive 14 years!

They've achieved some great things in that time. Some of their highlights include:

-successfully applying for funding for new scooter parking at the lower school site in 2018, and

-receiving £1000 in funding from the council to go towards road safety and active travel initiatives at the school in 2019 and 2020.

The borough team were so impressed by St Helen's College's initiative that they invited the school and student working group to Guildhall to present to the Council.

In 2023 the school achieved their Gold accreditation. They completed a wide range of activities which included;

  • A sponsored walk for years 7-10, designed by the year 7 school travel working group. Year 10 pupils were recruited as stewards and motivators
  • A smoothie bike to look at cycling in a new and fun way
  • Emails to parents to promote the 'Park and Stride' scheme
  • Sixth form students leading sessions with younger students on hate crime and racism.
  • Presentation of an annual plan to the governors and SLT
  • Developing a flower wall as part of their commitment to eco-schools
  • Creating a school travel planning section in the monthly newsletter
