Turing House are inspiring the student leaders of the future

'Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire’ – William Butler Yates.

This is a motto proudly shared on Turing House School’s website—and one they truly live by.

The school have been part of the TfL Travel for Life (formerly STARS) scheme for many years, and jumped at the chance to engage with the Pioneers Challenge recently. They are passionate about students developing their leadership skills and received a fantastic response from year 8 pupils when they were given the opportunity to apply to be Pioneers Ambassadors.

Supported by three year 12 active travel enthusiasts, these passionate students have gone above and beyond to boost active travel – running Earth Day events, leading a Road Safety course and speaking at year 7 assemblies. These activities have not only deepened their knowledge of active and sustainable travel, but they have developed their confidence and engagement skills.

The year 12 students have also felt the benefit – two of them have now been recruited as Senior Prefect and House Captain as a direct result of their work with the Pioneers Ambassadors.

Congratulations Turing House – we can’t wait to see what your pupils do next!
