What does it take to be a TfL Travel for Life Top School?
The first step towards becoming a TfL Travel for Life Top School is being able to showcase a school's journey towards supporting young people and school communities to travel actively, responsibly and safely.
Steps towards a successful nomination
A successful nomination will be greatly supported by providing as much detail as possible for any chosen category. The nomination form provides lots of detail for each section of the process. Every nomination received will be recognised by TfL whether shortlisted or not.

Please note that schools shortlisted for Category 7 award (School Champions) will be recognised and celebrated individually within their school community as opposed to on the event day itself.
Gather as much evidence and detail as possible to showcase the key success you aim to outline in your nomination. Consider a key issue that the school community overcame during the Academic year 2023-2024.
During the judging phase the primary source for selecting and shortlisting schools is the nomination form. So detail and evidence is really important! The judges will always review a school's travel for life page but the nomination form is the key reference. Give your school the best chance to be shortlisted!
Every nomination needs to be submitted individually. Please use the nomination button to submit each nomination. If you are nominating from a school, your borough officer can support your nomination so please reach out to them!
Our TfL Top Schools awards will be held on 19 May 2025. Please pencil in the date in case your school is shortlisted and invited to the event!
Belmore Primary Academy - Hillingdon
Best Newcomer Winner 2024
Belmore Primary Academy has been working on their School travel plan through the TfL Travel for Life programme since 2021. In that time, the school have run some fantastic events and worked hard to incorporate road safety messaging and sustainable travel into their school ethos.
Mission Grove Primary school - Waltham Forest
Long Term Excellence Winner 2024
Mission Grove set themselves an ambitious target of reaching 90% of their school community travelling actively by July 2025 and their 2022/23 demonstrated that they are already at 89%!
Guru Nanak Sikh Academy - Hillingdon
Modeshift Impact Winner 2024
Through the various TfL Travel for Life activities, campaigns, events and innovations that have been explored over the last few years the schools' efforts can be seen through their comparative hands up results. Since 2018, the school have significantly reduced car use and increased active travel.
Bullers Wood School for Boys - Bromley
Best Campaign Winner 2024
"Through taking part we have all learnt more about the health benefits of active travel. We have learnt about the benefits to peoples’ mental health from walking and cycling. We have also been made aware of our own carbon footprint and simple ways to reduce it".
Oaklands Primary School - Ealing
Creativity and Innovation Winner 2024
What sets Oaklands Primary School's initiative apart is their innovative and creative approach; the champion trained the Explorer Ambassadors in road safety, enabling them to be well-equipped to impart this knowledge to their peers.
Gillespie Primary School - Islington
Student Achievement Winner 2024
This young group of people have secured a huge achievement in a year with this Gold award but what is more these children have grown as individuals gaining confidence to help others and work as a team to maintain safety. In turn, they have helped our school but also impacted awareness for climate change.
Discovery Primary School - Greenwich

Cheryl is a true leader, always ready to lead by example. Cheryl is also a great collaborator. Cheryl has guided Travel Ambassadors through regular meetings and liaised with senior leaders to ensure the programme is completely embedded into the school's life.
Telferscot Primary School 'A Top School journey'
Telferscot Primary School won the Top School Innovation award in 2023. The school were absolutely ‘buzzing’ to win the award, and the Air Pollution team shared their experiences of the ceremony in KS1 and KS2 assemblies. They have also proudly displayed their certificate and Gold accreditation banner.
