About the activity

Join the global Outdoor Classroom Day campaign so your pupils can experience the benefits of outdoor learning and play.

Outdoor Classroom Day is an annual event that takes place in May and aims to get as many children as possible outside for at least one lesson in the school day and for playtimes to be celebrated. You can take part as a class or get your whole school involved!

Find out the date for the next Outdoor Classroom Day and register your school to take part on the campaign’s website.

Activity steps

Step 1

Get ready - Visit the Outdoor Classroom Day website (see Resources) to find out more about how you can get involved and register your school

Step 2

Plan the day - With your school travel working group, eco-council and/or TfL Explorers Ambassadors decide on how you’d like to celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day at your school

Step 3

Shout about it - Promote the activities you’re planning and their benefits to the wider school community with posters and an article in the newsletter or on the website

Step 4

Empty the classroom - Spend the day outside learning and discovering the local environment with your pupils. Remember to take photos and use #OutdoorClassroomDay on social media to join in the global conversation!

Step 5

Tell your story - Sign in to TfL Travel for Life to add your story and include pupils’ feedback. Explain the activity and add photos, lesson plans and any posters or promotional materials. Feedback to your borough officer
