About the activity

Running a competition is a great way to get your pupils and families excited and motivated about active, sustainable travel. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to generate stories to help you along the road to accreditation.

To help you choose the competition that works best for your school, taking factors such as location, experience and resources into consideration, use the Travel Competition Decision Tree in the Useful Resources. You can pick from a choice of competition formats, with includes all the steps to running a successful completion. You can use them as they are, or customise them to suit your school community.

Your competition can be promoted to the wider school community by advertising in newsletters or the school's website, raising awareness amongst your parents and carers, and encouraging action and change.

Entries can be announced in an assembly, followed by an assembly to announce the winners. Entries and winners can also be featured in a newsletter and on the website.
