Bullers Wood's Winning Campaign

This award-winning school are creating safer streets for Bromley

Bullers Wood School for Boys were the proud winners of ‘Best Campaign’ at the 2024 Top Schools Awards after achieving their mission to reduce car use.

The school had previously had a large catchment area, so it made sense that many parents dropped their children off by car. However, after analysing pupil’s postcodes they realised the catchment area was now much smaller, and many of these car journeys were unnecessary.

Mr Hutton enlisted a crack team of active travel enthusiasts who stopped cars as they entered the school grounds and handed them leaflets promoting their cause.

The pupils also spoke at school assemblies and surveyed classmates. It turned out that one barrier to children walking to school was that many played instruments which they needed to carry. Upon learning this, the team found storage space so that children could keep them on the premises.

Their hard work paid off, and car use on the school run has now been dramatically reduced. We look forward to seeing what Bullers Wood School for Boys do next!
