Chase Lane Primary's Journey to Gold

Young person on bike for Waltham Forest

In 2023, Chase Lane Primary were awarded a well-deserved Gold accreditation

Their achievements are all the more impressive as they only started their accreditation journey in 2020. Their hard work saw them go straight from Engaged to Silver!

In 2023 they achieved Gold after three years of activities aimed at improving their active travel.

They set themselves ambitious targets - to increase active travel to 75% by 2023 and reduce car use to 20%. They achieved these with flying colours and say it has made a positive difference to their school and community.

The activities they chose included:

  • Writing to local Councillors to ask for highway improvements outside their school
  • Delivering an anti-idling campaign outside the school
  • Writing an active travel policy and launching it to parents
  • Incorporating environmental change into the geography curriculum
  • Attending an outside event hosted by Waltham Forest that supports schools and colleges on their journey to decarbonisation
  • Committing to sustainable modes of transport for all school trips
