How St Gregory's are turning local roads from scary to safe!

How did this school take on the challenge of transforming Brent's busiest road?

St Gregory's Catholic Science College in Harrow have embraced the TfL Travel for Life scheme in heroic style. Having started their journey in March 2023, they achieved their Silver accreditation by Summer that year!

The Pioneers Ambassadors have made huge strides leading the school to a more active, sustainable way of travelling. From Presentation Skills training, to Air Quality Monitoring to a Poster Competition, they have managed to engage and excite the whole school, even creating their own slogan:

'Ditch the ride for a park and stride'.

Not only have they changed behaviours in their school community, but they're improving road safety for the community at large. Through surveys to parents and carers, they discovered that a lack of crossings at a busy junction in their area was a barrier to allowing children to walk to school.

Thanks to their tireless campaigning, they have managed to persuade Brent Council to install new road markings to highlight the dangerous junction, and further improvements are currently being being costed and consulted upon.

Congratulations St Gregory's - keep up the good work!
