Step 4: Creating your action plan

Congratulations! You're well on your way to success. You've identified your issues and set some targets, so now lets plan the activities that will help you achieve them. If you are in touch with your Borough Officer, they can help you.

Some activities will be part and parcel of setting up the programme in your school, such as:

There are also probably plenty of activities you are already doing such as:

For primary schools your Year 6 student will be offered either a place on your local Junior Citizenship Scheme or a TfL Citizens in-school presentation. Don't forget to add the relevant activity. And if you have Early Years, don't forget to use the TfL Discoverers resources too.

You can set up a TfL Explorers Ambassadors student group, which will help you involve the pupils and give them enrichment opportunties.

For secondary schools, make sure to run a School Travel Assembly for your students, and to really make that point about mobile phone distraction dangers, run the Road Safety Obstacle Course

Your school can apply to take part in the TfL Pioneers Challenge, which will help you involve the pupils and give them fantastic enrichment opportunities, as well as helping you achieve Gold in just two years.

Every year there are lots of fantastic events your school can take part in, and you can do lots of Activities as part of them. Some events can include as many as six activities each.

  • Car Free Day
  • Brake Road Safety Week
  • The Big Walk and Wheel
  • Bike Week
  • Walk to School Week
  • Clean Air Day

If you invent a great activity of your own, or do something that isn’t listed in our activities, use the Other activity cards to capture those. We've seen some amazing creative activities by schools - if you're proud of your work you can nominate your project for TfL Travel for Life Top Schools award.
