Step 5 Apply for accreditation

You're ready! Here' a final checklist that you're ready to apply

  • Hands-up Survey - you carried out a Hands-up Survey this school year.
  • Activities - you completed the number of activities required for the level you're applying for, with the appropriate evidence.
  • Targets - you set and met two SMART targets during the period you've been working on TfL Travel for Life
  • Modeshift - you achieved the required modal shift for your level. IMPORTANT! In some areas, this can be very hard to achieve, so if you have done everything you planned but not seen the modeshift needed, talk to you Borough Officer or the TfL Travel for Life team about you application as you may still be able to gain accreditation if you have had success in other areas.

On your Summary page, follow the instructions to apply for the Level you want. Your application will first be submitted to your Borough school travel planning team for review.

  • If you've applied for Bronze, they will decide whether or not to approve your application.
  • If you've applied for Silver or Gold, your application will then be passed on to the TfL Travel for Life team to approve.

Your Borough officer will assess your Bronze application and you should have a decision 15 September. TfL Travel for Life team assess all the Silver and Gold applications over August. They may have queries for some schools, so these are followed up in September. This means you may not get a decision on the Level you have achieved until the first week of October.

Once all the decisions have been made, your Borough will send you your certificate of TfL Travel for Life Accreditation Level. You will also be able to use the self-service ordering system to get free items to help you publicise your success.
