Pupil Voice

Suitable for all primary and secondary schools

About the activity

Including your pupils in decision-making when it comes to travel to and from school is a great way to create meaningful change, as well as giving children and young people a sense of empowerment and inclusion.

Pupil voice means making a commitment to asking children and young people about their views, wishes and experiences, and listening to their answers. Learning about your pupils’ travel experiences, such as what they like, or what they would change, is a great way to gain important insights.

It is hugely important for pupils to be given a platform to express themselves and know that their concerns will be taken seriously and actioned where appropriate. Pupils’ voices can impact both their parents and carers and the wider community - hearing why they want people to park, drive or travel differently around their school can surprise and motivate those around them to make changes.
